02. Tarun Tahiliani
Tarun Tahiliani born in Mumbai and completed his studies in the same city. Tarun Tahiliani and his wife Sailaja ‘Sal’ Tahiliani opened the very first multi-designer boutique in Delhi India. The name of their store is ‘Ensemble’.
This store has five other designer’s costumes like American fashion designer Neil Bieff and label Anaya,by Anita Shivdasani Rohit Khosla, Anuradha Mafatlal, Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, and Sunita Kapoor, actor Anil Kapoor’s wife.
In 1991 Tarun Tahiliani went to New York for studing Fashion Designing. In 1995 his work was noticed very first time when British heiress Jemima Khan wore his dress for her wedding.
03. Wendell Rodricks
Wendell Rodricks was born on May 28, 1960 in Goa. Wendell Rodricks is a very famous for his Western Indian design. Wendell Rodricks was the first designer from India to be invited to IGEDO (the world’s largest garment fair) and the first designer from India to open the Dubai Fashion Week.
Wendell Rodricks got fourth-highest civilian award the Padma Shri from Goverment of India.
04. Ritu Beri
Ritu Beri daughter of an army veteran born in New Delhi was the first asian Fashion Designer from India to head the French fashion brand, Jean-Louis Scherrer. Ritu Beri did her fashion study at the NIFT, New Delhi and launched her first luxe collection in Paris in 1998.
She also wrote a book which is the most expensive book in India Firefly – A Fairytale. The price of this book is Rs. 1 lakh and also published by Ritu Beri herself. Ritu also designes costumes for Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherji, Preity Zinta, Parmeshwar Godrej & Shobha De and she also designes costumes for her international clients US President Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, Moulin Rouge, Nicole Kidman, Hollywood actress Andie MacDowell, Supermodel Laetitia Casta, famous Parisian Socialite Mrs. Lagerdere, Langes Swarovski & The Swarovski family, Elizabeth Jagger and Jerry Hall.
05. JJ Valaya
JJ Valaya was born on 8 October 1967 in Jodhpur. In 1992 Valaya launched the House of Valaya along with his brother TJ Singh. Before starting his own brand JJ VAlaya and his brother TJ Singh trained under a pioneer in Indian fashion designer Rohit Khosla. Celebrities including Joseph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor have been worn his outfits. JJ Valaya’s labels are House of Valaya, JJ Valaya Muse, JJ Valaya, Valaya Quantum, Valaya Base, Valaya Home,The Home of the Traveler. In 2012 JJ Valaya has completed his 20 years in fashion Industry. Valaya is one of the founder member of the FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India).
06. Rohit Bal
Rohit Bal was born on May 8, 1961 in Kashmir, India. Rohit Bal did his Bachelor’s degree in history from St. Stephens College and went on to National Institute of Fashion Technology for his fashion studies. Bal started his carrer and introduced his own independent collection in 1990. Bal opened his store in Delhi, Mumbai,
Banglore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Channai. Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell and Anna Kournikova are his clients. Most of his shows are sponsored by The Swatch Group. Bal has won many awards like Designer of the Year Award in 2006 at the Indian Fashion Awards and also won the same title at the
Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001.
07. Ritu Kumar
Ritu Kumar was born on 11 November 1944 in Amritsar, Punjab. Ritu Kumar started her career as a fashion designer in Kolkota. Starting with bridal costumes, Ritu Kumar headed into the international market in the subsequent two decades. Ritu Kumar has opened stores in Paris, London and New York. At one time RituKumar’s company’s annual
trunover was the highest of any Indian Fashion Store. In 2013 Ritu Kumar received the Padma Shri award by the Government of India. Princess Diana, Madhur Jaffrey and Jemima Goldsmith are her notable clients.
08. Manish Arora
Manish Arora born and brought up in Mumbai. In 1994 Manish Arora received his graduate degree after winning the Best Student Awards. In 1997 Manish Arora introduced his own label “Manish Arora” and introduced his second label “Fish Fry” in 2001. Manish Arora also represented India at the Hong Kong Fashion Week. In 2002 Manish Arora opened his first store “Manish Arora Fish Fry” in New Delhi and in the same year he opened his second store in Mumbai. 09. Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Sabyasachi Mukherjee was born on 23 February 1974 in Kolkota. Sabyasachi Mukherjee went on to National Institute of Fashion Technology for his fashion studies and received his degree in 1999 with three major awards. In 2001 Sabyasachi won most outstanding young Designer of India award which took him to London. In 2002 Sabyasachi gave his debut perfomation at the India Fashion Week
where his collection got positive reviews nationally and internationally. In 2003 in singapore he made his internationally debut at the Mercedes Benz New Asia Fashion week. In 2004 his collection “The Frog Princess” took him a step ahead at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week and The Miami Fashion Week. He has also designed costumes for films such as Guzaarish, Babul, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Raavan, English Vinglish etc.
10. Vikram Phadnis
